Fire safety advice for children aged 5 to 11
The London Fire Brigade has created 3 videos to help children prevent, detect and escape from fire in the home.
Prevent fire
The prevention video explains how fires happen and the steps we can all take to prevent them. This includes:
- cooking safely
- never playing with lighters or matches
- adults putting out their cigarettes carefully
The video is aimed at children aged around 8 to 11.
Detect fire
The detection video talks about the:
- different types of smoke alarms
- different types of heat alarms
- the importance of regular testing
Escape from fire
This escape video includes guidance on:
- discussing your escape route in advance
- how to check if a door is hot
- how to avoid smoke
- how to call for help
It is aimed at children aged 5 to 7.
