Finance Roles - Welcome

Camden at night

Welcome

Welcome Message from Daniel Omisore, Director of Finance

Thank you for visiting our microsite and for your interest in working at Camden. I am delighted to bring these roles to you and together, I know we can create the right environment to achieve our goals.

Camden is building a borough that is the best place to live, work, study and visit. Making social justice a reality isn’t just talk, in Camden we’re working to create the conditions for all of society in every community to not just survive, but to thrive.

The Finance service in Camden has an ambitious vision to ensure consistent delivery of a high-quality, value-added service with excellent financial controls. We will do this through an exciting journey of continuous improvement, change, challenge, and innovation.

To deliver on our aspirations, you’ll be expected to know the basics. But even more importantly, to work in a collaborative way within the council, and with our residents and many partners.

Having worked my way up throughout my career, I truly believe in the power of nurturing talent; and to deliver this that’s where you come in. Whether you’re an experienced Finance professional with something to give back, looking for that new challenge or step up, or maybe just starting out in your career, we’d love to talk to you.

There is a spirit and energy in Camden that is hard to put into words, but if you have the passion and enthusiasm, we will work hard to enable you to realise your ambitions.

Together, we are cultivating a culture where authenticity is combined with adventurous and imaginative thinking - and I can’t wait to see what we can make happen in Camden.

Finance Roles - About Camden, Camden Missions, We Make Camden

About Camden

Our borough is home to a multitude of world leading institutions from the British Museum and the British Library to the Francis Crick Institute, Central Saint Martins and Google to name a few. However, alongside this growth and opportunity are communities and people suffering from some of the worst poverty in Europe.

Collectively we are working with our communities to reduce that inequality, ensuring that everyone who grows up, lives and works in our borough has access to the wealth and growth created here.

Over the last few years we have been working hard to ‘shift the balance’ of our services to ensure we intervene early and prevent needs escalating – to enable us to focus our resources on those citizens who really need them, while also trying to prevent complex issues from happening in the first place.

This context has shaped our approaches to work in the council including our how we form our budgets and continue to deliver on our successful MTFS programme. Camden is an ambitious borough, and this means our staff get to work in an environment where the challenges are unique and the work is incredibly varied.

Camden Missions

Camden Missions are the long-term goals for the future of our borough that were developed in collaboration with people across Camden. Camden has identified ten big issues facing the borough, which include four Camden Missions and six Camden Challenges.

The Missions evolved from the work of Camden’s Renewal Commission. While the Renewal Commission came to an end in 2021, we embraced its recommendations to progress these Missions so they remain at the heart of our work as we look to the future. They are long-term goals which help to break down and tackle big, complex issues across Camden.

We Make Camden

In the past few years, Camden has come together in new and inspiring ways to tackle some of the most pressing issues facing the borough. In March 2022, we published We Make Camden – our refreshed vision for the future of Camden.
It sets out what we want to collectively achieve and lead together and was developed following conversations with residents, partners and community leaders.

We Make Camden highlights the big issues facing Camden that we all agree are important, alongside practical ways we can make change together and the change we want to see in the short, medium and long term. We’d love for as many people as possible to get involved. Find out how to get involved.

Finance Service in Camden

The environment in which we operate continues to change and evolve and we recognise the need to constantly adapt to offer the best possible service to our residents and communities. As we plan over the medium term, this includes a focus on organisational transformational to deliver outcomes-based savings through transformation of how we work as an organisation and with our communities. Our Finance Service is a key partner in this work so this is a great time to join the Council and be a part of this journey.

While the difficulties in local government are well known and the uncertain operating environment continues to be challenging, our finances remain strong. This is down to decisions we’ve taken in the past and robust financial management over the years which has provided us with a solid foundation to build upon.

Our innovative outcomes-based approach to MTFS and budget setting, upfront investment in prevention and early intervention along with consistently spending within our means has placed us in a strong position. However, we don’t want to rest on our laurels, but instead build on this good work and plan for the challenges that we’re expecting in the future. This is where you come in, we’re looking for finance professionals at all levels to come to Camden and work with us as and make this a reality.

The roles

To build on these foundations and support our ambitious plans, set out in We Make Camden we are looking to strengthen our excellent finance team with a number of new roles across the service. This includes Strategic and Management Accountants, Business Partners and several technical roles. This is an ideal opportunity to contribute to some of the new and exciting projects constantly emerging in the borough, where finance voice and full participation will be required.

When you are in the office your main office base will be in 5PS our main headquarters a state of the art 11 storey office building in the heart of the award-winning King’s Cross estate. Our neighbours include Google, who have their current European headquarters next door, Universal Music and Louis Vuitton.

There are excellent commuter links to St Pancras and Kings Cross and the local area is full of choices for places to eat and drink with colleagues and friends after a hard day at work.

If you’re an experienced Finance professional with the energy and ambition to help drive and support our missions work, looking for a new challenge or to step up, or maybe just starting out in your career, we’d love to talk to you.

There is a spirit and energy in Camden that is hard to put into words, but if you have the passion and enthusiasm, we will work hard to enable you to realise your ambitions. This is a unique opportunity to work with an innovative council and help shape a finance function that matches the values and ambitions of We Make Camden and its ‘missions approach’.
